Candidates for the Ph.D. degree must complete six residence units. A master’s degree from an accredited institution may be accepted in the form of advanced standing as the equivalent of one year of residence (30 points of credit or two residence units) for either doctoral degree. An application for advanced standing must be completed during the first semester of study.

International students residing outside the United States must file an application for admission six months in advance of the term in which they wish to enroll in order to receive a visa in time for registration. One official transcript from every post-secondary institution attended, sent from the institution in a sealed envelope, Three recommendation letters, Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test Scores, sent from ETS. (Scores are valid for 5 years),Personal statement, Resume or Curriculum Vitae,Official GRE Subject Test score -Doctoral applicants (MS leading to PhD, PhD, Eng.Sc.D.) applying to the Applied Physics program are required to submit the official GRE Physics test score. Applicants whose undergraduate degree was received in a country in which English is not the official and spoken language must meet the following requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), official scores from ETS are required of all students whose undergraduate degree was received in a country in which English is not the official and spoken language (Scores are valid for 2 years). One official transcript from every post-secondary institution attended, sent from the institution, issued in English in a sealed envelope. Translation of the official transcript(s) is required if the institution(s) you attended does not issue transcripts in English. The transcript translation must be conducted by a reputable service and must be sent in addition to the official transcript. Personal transcript translations will not be accepted.
