This program enables students who have earned or are earning a bachelor degree in another discipline to earn a second bachelor degree in Economics. The economics degree complements the primary degree by establishing a strong analytical foundation for examining and solving economic, business, and social problems. Students who enjoyed Principles of Economics and want to learn more about the discipline should consider a Second Degree in Economics. It prepares graduates for entry level managerial or analytical positions in business and industry, as well as graduate study in economics, business, or law. The graduates of this program find employment in state and federal governmental agencies, the financial industry, and other private sector activities requiring strong analytical skills. Others pursue graduate study in economics, enter MBA programs, or enroll in law school.

Students must have a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) for admitting into College of Engineering or School of Technology, 2.5 for other programs and schools, a minimum 550 PBT, 213 CBT, 79 iBT (paper-based, computer-based, internet-based) in TOEFL or 690 in TOEIC or 6.5 overall band score in IELTS, minimum 420 writing, 500 critical reading, (550 Math/Quantitative) in SAT 1.

Applicants can apply through online (very quick and easy), they can fill out (handwritten forms will not be accepted), and mail to International Programs and Services (slow and will delay the admission). They also have to send the official transcripts from all the secondary and post-secondary schools (must be signed by the school official and sent by the school directly to Michigan Tech in a sealed envelope Certification of Secondary School Completion and any official exam scores), scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) or MELAB or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
