Geography is the study of the relationships between people and their environments, relationships that vary from place to place over the Earth. Students inquire into those factors responsible for the variable and changing character of Earth’s surface, which over time has been transformed into the human habitat. Geography integrates physical science, social science and the humanities. Physical geography emphasizes a systematic and interdisciplinary approach to the study of landforms, climate, soils and vegetation. Human geography seeks to describe and explain the spatial patterns of human activities on Earth. These range from such economic activities as the distribution of retail sales and industrial production to cultural landscapes, which often have strong historic roots. Both physical and human geography use a set of analytic techniques that includes cartography, Geographic Information Science (GISci), quantitative methods and remote sensing.

Applicants should have a demonstrated aptitude for mathematics and physics and must complete the required courses with a C or better: professional development, directed electives, and major courses with a minimum GPR requirement: 2.0 overall at A and M. They should have ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and must achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and have successfully taken all recommended coursework.

Applicant can submit the application form through online with a nonrefundable $75 application fee. The application fee may be paid by check, money order or approved credit card and applicants who wish to pay by credit card may do so as part of the online application. They should submit official transcripts of all official senior secondary or high school transcripts according to the educational system of their country (generally the last three to four years of secondary education); official SAT or ACT scores with writing component; scores on TOEFL; minimum SAT Critical Reading (Verbal) score of 480; minimum ACT English score of 19; minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall band, or completing all four years in a U.S. accredited high school. Applicants are required to complete Essay Topics A and B on the Apply Texas Application.
