This program offers a distinctive focus for general education and provides a background both for advanced specialization in the discipline and for study in other fields. Solid grounding in modern geography can lead to careers in government service, environmental consulting, marketing, publishing, planning, and teaching at all levels.

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum TOEFL score of 600 or higher on the old Paper Based TOEFL, 250 or higher on Computer Based TOEFL, or 104 or higher on the new Internet Based TOEFL is required. Minimum required scores in the IELTS are an overall score of 7, with sub scores of 7 each.

Students should submit the completed application form along with $65 application fee and Chicago supplement with essays. In addition to these, they need to submit secondary school reports, one recommendation from English or social studies teacher and one from a science or mathematics teacher, score of SAT or ACT and TOEFL or an IELTS scores.
