This program is intended to prepare students for careers in graphic design. The program includes the technical skills and the creative and intellectual capacity essential to the practices of graphic design and is intended to prepare students for employment in design studios, advertising agencies, packaging, publications and corporate design, film and television graphics, and Web and interactive design. For the B.Des. degree in Graphic Design a minimum of 120 credits is required.

Students interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Design Degree in Graphic Design must first gain admission to the pre-design program of the College of Arts and Architecture. Admission to the pre-design program is based upon a review of (1) the application for admission with complete academic credentials and (2) the review of a creative solution to a design problem that includes both a creative work and a written statement. International Students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency: A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper exam (score reports must be official and cannot be more than two years old); A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test; SAT score of 530 or higher on the critical reading or writing section; IGCSE score of A, B, or C on the English language exam, or; IB score of 5 or higher on the English language exam. Applicants who have been in a U.S. college or university and have completed two years of full-time academic course work and have a grade of C (2.0) or higher in a Standard English composition course will also meet the language proficiency requirement.

Applicants are requested to submit their application through online. Both online and on paper applications requires a $50 nonrefundable application fee. As part of their online application, students will also print out a counselor form. They should take this form to their high school counselor to complete and send to the undergraduate admissions along with their official high school transcript. (This form is waived if they are an adult student. A different form-the international supplement-is required if students have gone to school outside the U.S. Instructions can be found in the online application). Students should also have their standardized test scores sent directly from the testing agency. It accepts the SAT (code #2660) or the ACT (code #3656). It does not require the SAT II subject tests and letters of recommendation. International Students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency: TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, IGCSE or IB score reports. All documents should be submitted in the original language. All documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by a certified line-by-line, literal English translation.
