The objective of this program is to prepare the student broadly in the basic skills used by a sociologist. The goal of this program is to provide training for work as an applied social scientist outside of academic life, as in government administrative jobs or research departments or community programs. There is also room for some specialization or areas of concentration.

Students should have a demonstrate proficiency at an advanced level in a foreign language. In Sociology, that is understood to be a language in which there is a significant sociological literature and/or in which the student’s research will be conducted. There is no fixed minimum in GRE.
